At Home Exercise

by Don
(Buffalo, N.Y.)

This may be a bit off topic but can anyone recommend some good exercise games, cds, or programs?

I have a son who is a bit on the chunky side. I don't want to say overweight but he is just a little. I, on the other hand, am of normal weight for my build. I try to work out when I can and my son loves to imitate me but he looses interest. I've done my own searches but would prefer to know first hand.

answer:

There are some very good games for exercise that are also fun for the whole family. My son who is 19 and has always been active rants about the Nintendo Wii.

Like he says "It's awesome, Dad". I do know that they have a wii fit game. it is designed for exercise from yoga to running. It has a BMI calculator built in so you can check your progress.

It has gotten some very good reviews. This is a direct quote: Dr. David Katz, director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale University School of Medicine,

"the power of technological progress can be converted from foe to friend with regard to the health of children" by being tapped to provide a meaningful source of physical activity (Reinberg, HealthDay, 9/1/08; Mellecker/McManus, Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, September 2008]).

Personally I find the Nintendo tennis, golf, and baseball as more fun and they do promote exercise. The problem is that these can get a bit pricey. I have researched the wii online and it has very favorable reviews.

You shouldn't go wrong with making this choice for yourself and your son. Ultimately it is a personal choice but well worth looking in to.
